This people-to people licensed trip is designed for
those who are interested in participating in an interactive exchange with Cuban
citizens in examination of local, national, and global issues with regard to
sustainable communities. After
providing the historical context, discussions and excursions will focus on the
topics of public health, education, food systems including agriculture/permaculture,
economics, the natural environment, equity and diversity, culture and community
happiness. The delegation members
and their Cuban hosts will discuss the effects of current U.S. policies on
sustainability and will look at “what if” scenarios, for instance, “what if the
embargo was lifted tomorrow?”
Participants in this delegation will:
· Learn about Cuban national priorities
with regard to sustainability
· Learn about the effects of the U.S.
embargo on Cuban systems with a specific focus on how U.S. policies and
practices affect Cuban families and communities.
· Meet directly with Cuban citizens
including residents of Havana, scholars, members of the Cuban Parliament,
musicians and artists, members of community and cultural organizations.
Delegates will gain an understanding of how Cuba’s unique history has shaped
modern life for Cuban citizens as well as a significant part of the U.S.
