This people-to-people trip is designed for those who are interested in participating in an interactive exchange with Cuban citizens in examination of the changing U.S./Cuba relationship. We will discuss local, national, and global issues with regard to sustainable communities. After providing the historical context, discussions and excursions will focus on the topics of public health, education, food systems, economics, agriculture & ecological concerns, equity & diversity, culture, and community happiness. The delegation members and their Cuban hosts will discuss the effects of current U.S. policies on sustainability and will look at “what if” scenarios, for instance, “what is the embargo was lifted tomorrow?”

Participants on this delegation will:

  • Learn about Cuban national priorities with regard to sustainability
  • Learn about the effects of the U.S. embargo no Cuban systems with a specific focus on how U.S. policies and practices affect Cuban families and communities
  • Meet directly with Cuban citizens including residents of Havana, scholars, artists, members of community and cultural organizations.
  • Gain an understanding of how Cuba’s unique history has shaped modern life to Cuban citizens as well as a significant part of the U.S. population
