Five Men Now Hold as Much Wealth as Half of the World’s Population Combined

Wealth has never before in the history of humanity been this concentrated. With people slipping into poverty easier and easier, and the Trump administration working to put more money into the hands of the wealthiest, more people than ever are asking–what about socialism?

Cuba is an island home to 11 million people and more social and economic services than anywhere else in the Caribbean. Learn how a socialist country organizes itself to provide social services, education, health care, food, housing, safety and access to the arts to its citizens in an equitable manner?  Explore the many ways that this island nation, just 90 miles from our shore, has met these challenges for nearly 60 years in the face of opposition from its neighbor to the north.

We will meet with and learn from people engaged in:

  • The literacy campaign that made Cuba a UN-designated “illiteracy-free zone.”
  • Social programs – dialogue with participants.
  • Current education, both youth and communities.
  • Visual arts, painters, print-makers, mosaics, book-makers, visit galleries and museums.
  • The effects of the embargo and why it must end.
  • Art, poetry, literature and music that sustains the Cuban soul & enjoy performance events.
  • The Martin Luther King Center, a vibrant hub for community education.
